Himachal Pradesh: Membership of MLAs removed from CPS post will remain intact

The state government has got a big relief from the Supreme Court in the matter of appointments of Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) in Himachal Pradesh. The state government had challenged the decision of Himachal High Court in the Supreme Court. In the hearing held on Friday, the Supreme Court has put a stay on the order of Himachal Pradesh High Court, under which the protection given to the members of the Legislative Assembly on becoming Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Parliamentary Secretary regarding their MLA status was declared unconstitutional and illegal.

Accepting the petition filed by Himachal government against the High Court’s decision to remove 6 CPS, the Supreme Court has asked to maintain status quo in this matter. Along with this, SC has also issued notice to the petitioners who took this case to the High Court and has asked for a reply on the government’s petition within 2 weeks. The next hearing in the case will be on January 20.
